Macklemore and Ryan Lewis first released “Can’t Hold Us” on August 16, 2011 as the third single from their joint album “The Heist” (2012). The track featured the vocals of Ray Dalton and additional vocals by actress Susannah Wetzel. It was later re-released in early 2013.
Right after the re-release the song attracted attention of several product makers. It featured in US television commercial for Mirosoft Outlook, Miller drink adverts, as well as ESPN College Gameday commercials and premiere episode of MTV’s “The Real World: Portland”. It also reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the artist’s second Top 5 hit in the US.
For the video Macklemore and Ryan Lewis cooperated with director Jon Jon Augustavo who had also directed the video for their hit single “Thrift Shop”. “Can’t Hold Us” turned out to be as spectacular as “Thrift Shop”. It was shot in more than 16 locations all over the world.
